Project-Based Learning Classification
TEKS for Biology
8B categorize organisms using a hierarchical classification system based on similarities and difference shared among groups
8A define taxonomy and recognize the importance of a standardized taxonomic system to the scientific community
8C compare characteristics of taxonomic groups, including archaea, bacteria, protists, fungi, plants, and animals
The "Father of Taxonomy" Carolus Linnaeus has hired you as part of his personal taxonomic team of experts. He has sent out to explore the world and identify 6 living organisms each from different kingdoms (Eubacteria, Archaebacteria, Plantae, Animalia, Protista, Fungi) and needs your help in identifying the level of organization for all species and provide the scientific name. He has given you the task of providing a visual representation of the organism and identifying the characteristics that make them distinct from the other organisms in the kingdoms.
Question:
Why are the kingdoms of life so different from one another? Are there any areas where they are similar?
Note: Each internship team must research different organisms. Your final products will be displayed as a group and presented before your peers.
